APTA Committees

One of the highlights of joining the APTA is that you can help shape our industry by serving on a committee.
The APTA currently has the following committees:

Communications
A new committee for 2011; members will help guide upcoming communications efforts and have been working on a strategy for how to most effective communicate to members, public and governments.

Associated Trades
The Associated Trades Committee plans events such as the Truck Technology and Maintenance Conference and the Atlantic Truck Show, among its other functions.  This committee plays an important role with the APTA.  One of its focuses is to generate income for the APTA so it can continue to operate.

Finance Committee
This committee is mostly responsible for the Association's financials.  Reviewing the statements and providing recommendations to make sure the APTA follows the GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Practices) guidelines.  Members are typically in finance or other business management positions within member organizations.

Safety Council
The Safety Council is responsible for promoting safety within the trucking industry and its objectives are:

     - to work with and assist other organizations and agencies in the safety field;
     - to stay ahead of the regulation changes in Atlantic Canada;
     - to promote a positive image of safety within the industry and to the public;
     - to promote programs to aid in the reduction of accidents and personal injuries;
     - and to promote the importance of the driver's role in the trucking industry.

The committee organizes the Annual Regional Driving Championships and Transportation Safety Conference / Seminars.

Charity Committee
The Charity Committee was organized to review charity applications from APTA individuals or families in need and deliver approved funds.
The Committee has identified eight post-secondary campuses in Atlantic Canada that offer training and education to students entering the Transportation Field.
In 2010, these campuses each received two $500 bursaries.
The Committee also provides funds to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
A total of $41, 500 was donated in 2010.  Funds to support these worthy causes are raised at the Annual Charity Golf Tournament and the Atlantic Truck Show Silent Auction & Lobster Dinner.

Human Resource and Education Committee
This committee deals with HR issues in the industry and typically corresponds with driving schools, facilitates driver surveys, provides feedback to the membership on changes to the Driver Training Standards and other courses related to our Industry.

LCV Committee (Long Combination Vehicle)
The Long Combination Vehicle Committee was struck when New Brunswick and Nova Scotia adopted the LCV pilot programs.  Members work very closely with provincial governments regarding program rules; ensuring the programs work well for the industry.

Marine Committee
The Marine Committee was set up to address issues related  to ferry systems serving the Atlantic Provinces by representing APTA members in stakeholder meetings with ferry management.

Legislative Committee
Members of this committee represent APTA at meetings with Government when there is an issue or change in Transportation Legislation.
