Committees
One of the highlights of joining the APTA is that you can help shape our industry by serving on a committee.

The APTA currently has the following
committees:
Communications
A new committee for 2011; members will help guide upcoming
communications efforts and have been working on a strategy for how
to most effective communicate to members, public and
governments.
Associated Trades
The Associated Trades Committee plans events such as the
Truck Technology and Maintenance Conference and the
Atlantic Truck Show, among its other functions. This
committee plays an important role with the APTA. One of
its focuses is to generate income for the APTA so it can
continue to operate.
Finance Committee
This committee is mostly responsible for the Association's
financials. Reviewing the statements and providing
recommendations to make sure the APTA follows the GAAP (Generally
Accepted Accounting Practices) guidelines. Members are
typically in finance or other business management positions within
member organizations.
Safety Council
The Safety Council is responsible for promoting safety
within the trucking industry and its objectives
are:
- to work with and assist other
organizations and agencies in the safety field;
- to stay ahead of the regulation changes
in Atlantic Canada;
- to promote a positive image of safety
within the industry and to the public;
- to promote programs to aid in the
reduction of accidents and personal injuries;
- and to promote the importance of the
driver's role in the trucking industry.
The committee organizes the Annual Regional Driving Championships
and Transportation Safety Conference / Seminars.
Charity Committee
The Charity Committee was organized to review charity applications
from APTA individuals or families in need and deliver approved
funds.
The Committee has identified eight post-secondary campuses in
Atlantic Canada that offer training and education to students
entering the Transportation Field.
In 2010, these campuses each received two $500
bursaries.
The Committee also provides funds to the Juvenile Diabetes Research
Foundation.
A total of $41, 500 was donated in 2010. Funds to support
these worthy causes are raised at the Annual Charity Golf
Tournament and the Atlantic Truck Show Silent Auction & Lobster
Dinner.
Human Resource and Education Committee
This committee deals with HR issues in the industry and typically
corresponds with driving schools, facilitates driver surveys,
provides feedback to the membership on changes to the Driver
Training Standards and other courses related to our
Industry.
LCV Committee (Long Combination Vehicle)
The Long Combination Vehicle Committee was struck when New
Brunswick and Nova Scotia adopted the LCV pilot programs.
Members work very closely with provincial governments regarding
program rules; ensuring the programs work well for the
industry.
Marine Committee
The Marine Committee was set up to address issues related to
ferry systems serving the Atlantic Provinces by representing APTA
members in stakeholder meetings with ferry management.
Legislative Committee
Members of this committee represent APTA at meetings with
Government when there is an issue or
change in Transportation Legislation.
